of tonight's commitment 2010 report. jayne miller joins us live in the newsroom. >> the new reports show that republican bob ehrlich has outraged democratic governor martin o'malley -- out raised governor martin o'malley. challenger gregg bernstein continues to surge in financial support to try to unseat incumbent pat jessamy. the challenger continues to pull in donors at a brisk clip, outperforming incumbent pat jessamy by a margin of nearly 3 to 1. the report shows he has raised more than $70,000 in just 19 days from august 10 thru august 29. most of the donations were less than $100, according to the bernstein campaign. he has a comfortable cushion for a last-minute advertising leading up to the election. by contrast, pat jessamy has pulled in $28,000 over the same 19-day period. we reported a loan wednesday, a personal loan jessamy is making to help pay for tv advertising that just started on the air. >> a spokesperson for the o'malley campaign called the recent aids in fund-raising for challenger bob ehrlich no big deal. the spokesperson said that have taken a break. the o'malley ca

stan stovall. thank you for joining us this morning. sandra shaw has a quick look at the forecast. we have some good news. >> we have great news. upper 70's and plenty of sunshine. one more hot day today. hurricane earl is a category 2 storm, 85 miles southeast of cape hatteras. they are dealing with tropical storm force conditions right now. it is moving at 18 miles per hour. like recent wind and rain later this morning and maybe early afternoon in ocean city. then clearing nicely there as well. on friday, 87 to 90, one more hot one. the wind will pick up. there is more cool air behind that front. that will pave the way for a lovely labor day weekend. more coming up. but now let's check on your morning commute with kim dacey. >> looking pretty good also as we start the labor day weekend. in ellicott city, eastbound not, there is a a downed pole and some downed wires at waverly woods drive. it is on the shoulder. there are some crews on the scene. otherwise, we are looking good. we're up to speed on the inner loop topside, eight minutes. 895 park between 95 on the south side and the h

friday. i am mindy basara. >> and i am stan stovall. thank you for joining us this morning. >> sandra shaw has a quick look at the forecast. >> earl has been downgraded. it was a category 4 storm. >> it was big at one time. >> it is a category 2 right now. it is all off shore. it gave a glancing blow to the outer banks last night. there were tropical storm force winds, some higher gusts up to about 70, 74. around ocean city, not much impact yet. there is some light rain. tropical storm force conditions are possible. there is a warning for the ocean city area. the flood advisory for the west side of the bay has been canceled. things are now looking good for the chesapeake bay. we are in store for an awesome friday. we have clouds last night and a front will be pushing through later on tonight. that means food news for the weekend. there will be plenty of sunshine. further details on hurricane earl in just a little bit. but now a year from the commute. >> we have just one incident to talk about. there is a downed pole at waverly woods in ellicott city. otherwise, we're lookin

. >> the game plan to get the word out ask even to use good common sense and caution. prepare for tropical winds. that's what we're going to get. >> heading into the evening the percentage officials moved life guard chairs and trash cans off the beach as they're expecting debris to blow around. they're expecting minor flooding. they feel confident that ocean city will be spared from major damage. >> we're going to get through this. this is another storm. we have plans in place. we're ready to go and clean up quickly and get the weekend back up for the visitors. >> the emergency operations center will open at 4:00 in the morning to make sure everyone is on the same page and no extra precautions need to be taken. as far as us, we're going to follow the storm as well. we'll have updates for you starting tomorrow morning on 11 news today. and for now in ocean city, tv 11 news. >> of course -- beach patrol is monitoring the storm and warning beachgoers to be on alert. and a number of patients with beach related injuries will end up here. >> i spent

, this is -- this is a near miss. if this had been right on point, it would have been a mess for us. right now, we've got wind gusts of over 70 miles per hour and it's a sand-driven, wind-driven rain that is just really brutal. we have had reports of flooding. we still have power throughout good portions of the outer banks right now. a lot of people are really, really excited about the fact that this could have been much worse. it's downgraded in its size and power. right now, we do have hurricane warnings in effect still for the northern half of the coastline of north carolina. we also have tropical storm watches and warnings all the way up to new england. hurricane warnings for parts of new england as well. the big problem is going to be the storm surge. not so much the rain. it's going to be the storm surge, anywhere from two to four feet of storm surge, some areas picking up five feet of storm surge, but make no mistake, rainfall is still going to be an issue. we're talking about rain that could be anywhere from two to four to six inches, some areas picking up seven to ten inches of rain, especially as yo

(announcer) new icy hot spray. relief that's icy to dull pain, hot to relax it away. and no mess. new icy hot spray. don't mess around with pain. >> new york city police are investigating the death of a girl who weighed just 15 pounds. the girl had a medical condition affecting her lungs. she was found dead in this york city apartment. her mother is being questioned because the girl only weighed 15 pounds and the police found bruises on her arms and twine in her crib. the mother admitted time the girl as a form of punishment. the fire on thursday came less than five months after the explosion of the deepwater horizon oil rig that killed 11 people and was the worst offshore oil spill in the nation's history. this time, no one was killed. because guard says that no crude-oil is leaking. still to come, there's a dramatic increase in the number of military veterans being treated for sleep apnea. find out what doctors say may be causing the problem. >> earl is off shore and a cold front to the west.
